Carteret, NJ – Mayor Reiman and the Borough of Carteret, in collaboration with the Central Jersey Arts Council, celebrated Black History Month throughout February with a film series, live cultural Story Weaving, and traditional African drumming performances.
The film series featured African American classic films Betty & Coretta, Remember the Titans, Marshall, Selma, Glory, Loving, and recent Academy Award winning film Black Klansman. On Sunday, February 17, families were treated to Victor Marshall’s Traditional African Drumming performance of “From Africa to the New World” and African Story Weaving by Yvonne Caesar.
On February 28th, the Central Jersey Arts Council presented Art and Story Time at the Carteret Library, which included readings of “Uncle Remus: The Complete Tales” by Jerry Pinkney, “Dave The Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave” by Laban Carrick Hill, and “A Chair for My Mother” by Vera B. Williams. Following the readings, children used clay and watercolor to create their own masterpieces. Thank you to all who attended to celebrate Black History!
