Mayor Daniel J. Reiman, of Carteret NJ, was elected to his first term in 2002 becoming the youngest Mayor in the history of the town and the youngest ever in the state of NJ at the time. He is the only Mayor in Carteret to be elected to 6 consecutive four year terms. Prior to being elected, Mayor Reiman served as a Borough Councilman (’01–’03), Planning Board member from 1999-present, and on various other committees and municipal agencies. Reiman was re-elected as Mayor in November of 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, and most recently in 2022 where he ran unopposed.
As Mayor, he serves in a full-time capacity overseeing 200+ employees and a $60 million dollar annual budget. He heads the Borough Administration, which is comprised of thirteen departments, including; Administration, Personnel, Purchasing, Finance, Tax Collection and Economic and Community Development. He directs the Borough’s operations and policies through the department directors and is responsible for the oversight of the Borough’s annual operating budget, labor contract negotiations and Redevelopment agreements. He serves on the Board of Directors of United Roosevelt Savings Bank and as an Employer Trustee to the Teamsters Local 97 Health Benefits Fund.
Reiman, also serves as Chairman of the nonprofit Carteret Business Partnership and Mayor’s Charity Trust Fund.
