Carteret, NJ – The Borough of Carteret, in coordination with the GSA (formerly the Gay Straight Alliance) of Carteret High School and the Central Jersey Arts Council, will celebrate LGBT Pride month this Saturday, June 23 with morning GSA Day festivities. Beginning at 11:30 am, the Borough will raise the Pride flag, followed by a vocal performance by recording artist Rich Hennessy and selections by the Carteret High School Choir. Lite Refreshments will be served.
“We are proud to celebrate the all-inclusive, diverse community that is Carteret,” said Mayor Daniel J.Reiman. “We are a welcoming melting pot of all ethnicities, sexualities, genders and creeds. Our events reflect our rich cultural diversity and our whole hearted support for each other. LGBTQ rights are basic human rights that are written to protect everyone.”
LGBT Pride month is celebrated in June of each year to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
