Carteret, NJ – Mayor Dan Reiman has announced that the governing body of the Borough of Carteret (Mayor and Council) has selected AJ Johal to fill the vacancy created by the passing of the Democratic Councilman Joseph W. “Skippy” Sitarz on April 11, 2016. Councilman Sitarz had served on the Council for 22 non-consecutive years
On April 26, 2016 the local Democratic Organization met and selected three candidates, as required by state statute, to be submitted to the governing body for consideration. The candidates were AJ Johal, Martin Murray and Richard Hrycuna. On Wednesday, the Borough Council selected AJ Johal to serve for the remainder of councilman’s unexpired term which ends in 2018.
Johal has been a resident of the Borough of Carteret for over 3 decades. He founded Racestar gas station in 1995 in Fords, NJ. Racestar is headquartered in Carteret and has 15 locations throughout central New Jersey with 3 locations being in or adjacent to Carteret. In addition to the gas stations, he owns Investments properties throughout New Jersey. AJ is the Vice Chairman of the Carteret Business Partnership, a member on the Carteret Municipal Alliance, Board of Education, Board of Trustees for the Free Public Library, the Recreation Commission, the Charity Trust Fund and the governing body of Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar.
Ajmar will be sworn in on Thursday May 5th at 6 PM in the Council Chambers of the Memorial Municipal Building.
