Carteret, NJ – Mayor Dan Reiman and the Latin Festival Committee have announced that the Borough will be holding its annual Latin Festival at Carteret Waterfront Park on Saturday, July 25th from 4:00 – 11:00 pm. The event is the latest addition to a number of celebrations and programs hosted by the Borough throughout the year which acknowledge the rich ethnic diversity that has come to define its body of residents.
“One of the primary strengths of our community lies in its diversity,” said Reiman. “Each of our groups brings something unique and different to the table, and we are all better off when those differences are celebrated. The story of America is one rich in various cultural history, with each group uniting behind the common idea of freedom and opportunity; there is no better example of that than right here in Carteret.”
A range of vendors and crafters are expected to participate in this year’s Latin Festival, which will also showcase a number of ethnic musical performances, folkloric dance demonstrations, and a variety of family-oriented fun and activities.
“We are absolutely thrilled at the level of interest and support we have seen,” added Judy Valdes, the volunteer Latin Festival Committee Chair. “Celebrations such as this would not be possible were it not for the enthusiasm of the community, and those who truly appreciate the heritage and traditions that are intertwined within the fabric of this great nation.”
According to the 2010 census, Carteret’s Hispanic population sits at 33%, while approximately, 18% of Middlesex County residents are of Latin heritage.
