Carteret, NJ – On Saturday July 31st Mayor Reiman and the Borough Council will join with residents for a ribbon cutting ceremony unveiling the recently completed Ash Street Park rehabilitation. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the corner of Ash St. and Arthur Ave.
The project was made possible through a competitive grant award of $480,000 in funding towards multi-parks improvement projects that also included upgrades and new ADA accessibility at Carteret Park’s Soliders and Sailors Memorial.
The award consisted of a Green Acres grant of $120,000 from the Middlesex County Open Space Fund.
Improvements at Ash Street Park (“Little Park”) have included the creation of a U-8 soccer field along with extensive landscaping and new playground equipment.
“Parks have always played an important role in setting quality of life standards in Carteret,” Mayor Reiman stated. “Residents of all ages have utilized the enormous range of amenities our parks system offers, and our expanding range of public resources for both active and passive recreation.”
One of Carteret’s smaller parks, Parkview’s modest 0.78 acre park has offered little more than playground amenities to Borough residents. Upgrades have included the addition of a new basketball court, and enhancements with new “fibar” safety surfacing, benches, landscaping and fencing.
Councilman Bellino added, “Carteret residents know how active our youngsters are, and how critical our parks and athletic facilities are to our many sports programs and organizations. Ash Street Park has been overdue for these improvements and enhancements that will provide a valuable new resource for our athletes.”
