Carteret, NJ – Mayor Dan Reiman and Council President Susan Naples have announced that $327,000 in upgrades at Cornell Park have been completed.
The 0.97 acre park is located at Orchard St. and Pinho Ave. in West Carteret.
Improvements have called for the addition of a new basketball court, along with new surfacing, backboards, and hoops for the existing court. New amenities and conveniences include new fencing, sidewalks, and milling and paving of the roadways adjacent to the park. The contract also included the resurfacing and restriping of 3 courts at Chrome (“Andrews”) Park and 1 court at Shorecrest Park
Upgrades began in April 2014 and were completed in October.
“The Borough Council and I share the objective of improving and upgrading all of Carteret’s parks where needed,” Mayor Reiman said. “For Cornell Park that has meant additional athletic facilities, improved accessibility, and aesthetic enhancements, all of which will ensure the continuing value of this public treasure.”
“We’re glad to have brought these much needed improvements to one of West Carteret’s two public parks,” Council President Susan Naples added. “A good network of local parks means evolving with the interests and needs of our residents, as well as the Borough’s continuing growth.”
