Carteret, New Jersey – Mayor Dan Reiman has announced that the Borough of Carteret will hold its Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday, December 1, 2017. The tree lighting is part of the Borough’s annual Christmas Festival which is held at Carteret Park and will run from 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Friday evening.
The Christmas Festival, which is attended each year by thousands of residents and visitors from across Central New Jersey, is free to the public and features live holiday music such as a DJ, choir, Carteret High School band and carolers, pictures with Santa, horse and buggy rides, and complimentary refreshments like: roasted chestnuts, hot pretzels, cocoa and cider.
According to Mayor Reiman, “The tree lighting and Christmas Festival mark the beginning of the holidays in Carteret. The night provides a great opportunity to enjoy time with family, friends and the community and to get into the spirit of the season.”
Also part of the festival is a Twelve Days of Christmas Light Display and the Grand Arrival of Santa who will be escorted to the festival by the Carteret Fire Department immediately following the tree lighting at 7:00 p.m.
Additional events include a Christmas Decorating Contest from December 18th– 20th, a Menorah Lighting on December 12th at 6 p.m. and the Annual Santa ride along with the Carteret Fire Department.
The Carteret Fire Department joined by volunteers and career members of the emergency services in hosting a ride along for Santa Claus. Santa will ride atop the fire trucks while he and his helpers distribute candy canes on every street in the Borough from Monday, December 4th to Thursday, December 7th. The ride along will take place at 6 pm each day and will follow the recycling district schedule.
