Carteret, NJ – Mayor Reiman recently joined with Councilman Vinny Bellino to announce that the Borough has received $4,500.00, an appropriation requested to help finance its 4th annual “Concerts by the Bay” series. The arts grant was awarded by Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission, and will fund its popular live music series at Waterfront Park.
Since its introduction in 2006, the series has grown tremendously in popularity, drawing both residents and visitors alike, and winning sponsorship endorsements from large corporations like Pathmark, Comcast, Northfork, and PSE&G. Among others, popular regional acts have included the Garden State Symphony Orchestra, the Cameos, and Parrotbeach.
“This is one of many programs we’ve introduced that has put Carteret on the map for arts and entertainment,” Mayor Reiman has commented. “It is also a celebration of one of our greatest achievements in redevelopment; Waterfront Park has not only reused a considerable portion of abandoned bayside property, but established a resource for both active and passive recreation that is growing each year. This has been the perfect setting for our summer concert series, and week after week proves to be a popular and pleasant attraction.”
All concerts are free, beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Sundays, at Carteret Waterfront Park. This summer, performances will include:
7-12-09 – The Cameo’s – “a special brand of oldies music”
7-29-09 – Rag Doll – “a tribute to Frankie Valli”
7-26-09 – Suzette Dorsey – “a tribute to Tina Turner”
8-02-09 – Jersey Sound – “a touch of home”
8-09-09 – Total Soul – “songs from the 60’s to today”
8-16-09 – Joey Armino & the Family – “American Bandstand Review”
8-24-09 – Emil Stucchio & the Classics “from 50’s to today’s sounds”
“This has been one of those wonderful programs that demonstrates the value and versatility of our public system of parks,” Councilman Bellino stated. “The growing number of residents and visitors that have attended each summer attests to the popularity of this performance series. I’m personally looking forward to this summer’s performances, and to gathering with residents for our weekly celebration of music and Carteret.”
