Carteret, NJ – On Monday November 21st, Mayor Daniel J. Reiman and PRAB, Inc. opened an intake Home Energy and Weatherization Assistance Office. Since November 7, 2011, PRAB has been accepting applications for Low Income Energy Assistance (LIHEAP), the Universal Service Fund (USF), and Weatherization programs at the new office located at the Thomas J. Deverin Community Center and Public Library, 100 Cooke Avenue.
Applications at this location are accepted via walk-in only. Program hours are Monday through Wednesday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with extended hours on Wednesdays until 6:00 PM.
“As part of our ongoing effort to expand the services readily available to our residents,” Mayor Reiman said, “we have remained determined to establish new partnerships within both the public and private sectors. The opening of a PRAB office in Carteret will allow for significant benefits for residents of Carteret.”
PRAB’s new Carteret office is located in the atrium of the Thomas J. Deverin Community Center and Library. The community center has come to house a range of other services which include the Borough’s Office on Aging, Office for the Disabled, and Congressman Albio Sires’ district office.
Freeholder Blanquita Valenti expressed that “PRAB’s collaboration with the Mayor and Borough Council of Carteret serves as an example of dedicated individuals maximizing resources to improve people’s lives.”
Mayor Reiman added that “during these challenging economic times our residents, in particular senior citizens, will benefit by having PRAB’s new intake office in our community.”
Carteret was identified as a satellite location to better serve residents in the northern part of Middlesex County.
“The addition of the PRAB office to our community center represents our commitment to expand the range of services available to Carteret residents here at home,” Councilman and Finance Chairman Jorge Diaz stated. “These programs will prove invaluable to Carteret residents who need and qualify for weatherization assistance.”
“It’s great to see PRAB’s services made more accessible to all parts of Middlesex County, including our northernmost areas,” Freeholder Ronald G. Rios said, “making their programs immediately available to Carteret residents and neighboring communities.”
“The opening of this new location represents an exciting point in time for PRAB as we continue to grow our ability to improve the quality of life of the low income population of central New Jersey” said Mario Vargas, Executive Director of PRAB.
Eligible Middlesex County residents can also apply to the LIHEAP/USF, TRUE and Weatherization program at PRAB’s two other locations: 313 State Street, Suite 301, Perth Amboy, NJ (walk-in only); PRAB’s main office located at 90 Jersey Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 (mail, walk-in, and drop off). Program hours for both offices are Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM with extended hours on Wednesdays until 6:00 PM.
