Carteret, NJ – Mayor Daniel J. Reiman and the Carteret Free Public Library announced today that the Borough of Carteret will be a participating sponsor in the U.S.D.A.’s Summer Food Service Program for 2012. The service represents the latest addition to a number of summer programs established to allow local children to continue leading active and healthy lifestyles during their hiatus from school.
The 2012 Summer Food Service Program, a Federal program of the Food and Nutrition Services under the United States Department of Agriculture, will run from July 9, 2012 to August 17, 2012. Lunches will be served at the Housing Authority Community Center, 1 Bergen St., Thomas J. Deverin Community Center, 100 Cooke Ave., Favor Ministries, 1508 Roosevelt Ave. from 12:00 noon until 1:00p.m. weekdays, and Minue School (special needs only), 83 Post Blvd. (closed program, 11 a.m. to 12:00 noon weekdays).
This service provides all children 18 years of age and under with the same free meal in accordance with a menu approved by the state agency regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, disability, or age.
“This program will allow our children to go about their summer routines without sacrificing a healthy diet,” Mayor Reiman stated, “and provide the opportunity to develop good eating habits that can last a lifetime.”
Councilman Skippy Sitarz added, “from our youth to our seniors, this is a physically active community. The Summer Food Service Program has played a big part in encouraging healthy eating among our adolescents, and complementing the active lifestyles that are prominent during the summer months.”
