Carteret, NJ – KDC Solar LLC, headquartered in Bedminster, New Jersey, in a joint venture with Nugen Capital Management LLC, has begun commercial operation of the second largest PV roof-mounted solar system in New Jersey at the White Rose Inc. facility in Carteret. The new system will allow White Rose to significantly reduce its carbon footprint through the production of clean electricity.
“White Rose is to be applauded for their commitment to clean energy and a greener New Jersey,” Mayor Reiman stated. “This is one of many major corporations that have found Carteret an ideal place to call home, and that has continued to evolve with the Borough and the needs of our residents throughout its history. Technological advancements such as this impressive solar panel array promise continued economic growth, while enhancing the lives of our residents through the nurturing of a healthier environment.”
A ribbon cutting ceremony marking the occasion was held at the site on Wednesday, January 25th. Among the dignitaries in attendance were Board of Public Utilities Commissioner Joseph Fiordaliso; Assistant Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Michele Siekerka; Assemblyman Jon Bramnick, Republican Minority Leader; and Assemblyman Upendra Chivakula, Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Assembly’s Telecommunications and Utility Committee.
The 4.88-megawatt solar system will generate approximately 6,201.8 hours of solar electricity per year and is designed to supply 100 percent of the electric power needs for the White Rose grocery warehouse site. The installation was done by Solar Power Inc. a nationwide leader in engineering and construction, power, water, environmental remediation, homeland security and renewable energy.
The project used over 22,000 panels manufactured by LDK Solar, with total costs estimated at $26.5 million.
“White Rose is excited to enhance our presence in New Jersey with this rooftop solar installation,” said John Annetta, the company’s Senior Vice President of Operations. “The reduction of our carbon footprint is allowing us to expand our environmental stewardship in the local community and the state.”
“We are very pleased to have worked with Nugen Capital in this joint venture to complete the second largest solar facility in New Jersey and be able to supply clean, lower cost, long-term solar energy that will satisfy 100 percent of White Rose’s’ current needs,” said Hal Kamine, KDC Solar’s Chief Executive Officer. “As the largest rooftop mounted project KDC Solar has commissioned in New Jersey, it is a successful model that we intend to replicate as KDC Solar pursues its commitment to “behind-the-meter” solar electric systems for business/government and institutions, which in turn creates or preserves long-term jobs for the state.”
“From an electrical consumption perspective, this building has no measurable adverse impact on our environment,” said KTR Capital Partners. “From an energy conservation perspective, we can’t think of a greater endeavor – it’s a tremendous social benefit, responsible building practice, and it’s just plain good business. We were pleased to work with KDC Solar Nugen WR and White Rose to bring this solar project to fruition.”
