Carteret, NJ – Mayor Dan Reiman has joined with Councilwoman Susan Naples to announce that $42,500 in improvements and additions have been completed at Civic Center Park’s skate park.
In the fall of 2010 Mayor Reiman and the Borough’s Engineering Director met with Carteret Middle School students, who presented some of the improvements they would like to see at the deteriorating skate park, which was originally constructed in 1998.
Construction on the project began on May 31 and was completed on June 6. New attractions include:

The new equipment and construction totaled $29,000. Improvements also included new asphalt paving ($6,000), and upgrades and modifications to fencing ($7,500). Existing equipment underwent extensive repairs. Funding has been provided through Carteret’s local Open Space fund.
According to the Borough Engineering Department, the total size of the skate park increased from 9,000 sq. ft. to 14,000 sq. ft..
“Physical activity comes in all shapes and sizes in Carteret,” Mayor Reiman stated. “We have always recognized how many cyclists and skaters we have here, and it was plain to see that our skate park was in need of repairs and upgrades. The Council and I are pleased to see that so many of our young skating and cycling enthusiasts will benefit from these upgrades which should last for years to come.”
A date has not yet been set for the park’s official grand re-opening.
