Carteret, NJ – Mayor Dan Reiman has announced that on Saturday, June 21st, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker and Carteret native Jason Worilds will join with local athletes for his 2nd annual “Jason Worilds Youth Football Camp.”
The event will be free of charge and will host approximately 125 youths, grades 4-8, and will coincide with “Jason Worilds Day,” first established via proclamation by the Mayor and Borough Council in June of 2010. That year, Mayor Reiman and the Carteret Business Partnership hosted its annual board meeting with Jason Worilds, who was a 2010 second round draft pick for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Later that day, Mr. Worilds addressed Carteret High School’s graduating seniors.
The football star attended Carteret High School, playing with the Carteret Ramblers, and graduated in 2006. He played 3 seasons with the Virginia Tech Hokies while earning an undergraduate degree in consumer studies.
The youth football camp will be held at Carteret High School with the following itinerary:
- 7:30 a.m. Registration
- 8:15 a.m. – 12:00 noon Camp
- 12:00 noon – 12:30 p.m. Jason & Mayor to address participants
- 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Lunch, autographs, and dismissal
“Jason is a remarkable young man that I know will be welcomed home warmly,” Mayor Reiman said. “He is also a testament to the kind of achievement that comes with vision, focus, and determination, and is therefore a great representative of Carteret. We’re grateful that he continues to remember his roots as he progresses with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and remains selflessly committed to young athletes everywhere.”
